Another futuristic cryptocurrency-based city will be built in Africa, Senegalese-American star Akon announced. The government of Uganda will provide him with land for the construction of the new crypto city. The akoin cryptocurrency will be used in the city, similar to how it will be in Akon City, the $ 6 billion “real-life Wakanda” that's currently under construction in Akon's country.
Akon's second city will be launched in Uganda
Akon, whose real name is Alioune Badara Thiam, announced last week his plan to build a second futuristic city in Africa. His home will be in Uganda.
His first crypto city, Akon City, which costs $ 6 billion, is under construction in his home country of Senegal. Akon described it as a "real-life Wakanda," comparing Akon City to the fictional African city from Black Panther.
The new city has the support of the Ugandan government. Isaac Musumba, Uganda's minister, said at a press conference last week that the government will find suitable land a square mile or larger for Akon. The minister said:
“A suitable location in Uganda that is no less than one square mile in size will be made available to Akon and his team. In this way it will be able to exploit resources and investments, attract investors, manage the project and have a city ”.
According to local media, the new city will use Akon's cryptocurrency, similar to what is expected in the first Akon City in Senegal.
The Akoin cryptocurrency is already used in Mwale Medical and Technology City (MMTC) in Kenya as a pilot for Akon City. "We will be using akoin exclusively by the end of 2021," said Julius Mwale, MMTC's lead investor, in November last year.
When asked if Ugandans will be able to afford to live in futuristic Akon City, the singer replied: “I know if I put it there, they will find a way to afford it because it will motivate them… Ultimately, when you create a ' opportunity, people grow up with that opportunity, people learn with that opportunity, people are motivated by that opportunity ”.

Akon also shared his broader vision, stressing that "the continent is our goal". The singer explained: "To build the continent, we must unite as a people to make this happen," adding: My true calling is to develop Africa, whatever it takes.
As for the city in Uganda, he noted that: "The idea is to use all the resources we have built up over the years and try to rebuild the country."
Specifically, he explained: “We will have some professionals that we plan to fly to Uganda and who can train the locals and I think one of the things we miss in the main countries is access to information and we need to be properly trained not only in construction, but also in property management and therefore in property maintenance ".
