Zcash is a cryptocurrency that was devised using enhanced encryption for the privacy of its users. We are talking about a level of privacy much higher than that of systems like Bitcoin.

The original protocol was called ZeroCoin which was then transformed and changed to Zcash only in 2016. The development of the protocol and its improvements are led by the company ZeroCOin Electric Coin.

The founder of the company is Zooko Wilcox-O'Hearn. Its development team includes Matthew D. Green of Johns Hopkins University.

Payments with Zcash are published on a public blockchain, but users are free to set total privacy to send and receive money, but also to obscure the amount of the transaction.

Just like Bitcoin also Zcash has a limit on mining set at 21 million units. In the first 4 years, 20% of the mined ZECs will be allocated to a fund distributed to the investors and developers of the project.
