NiceHash announces support for Shiba Inu Coin (SHIB) in a Twitter poll

Cryptocurrency mining and trading platform NiceHash may soon be supporting Shiba Inu after posting a survey on Twitter that includes SHIB.

The survey asked NiceHash followers: “What do you want for Christmas from NiceHash? SHIB or STX? " SHIB has earned 97,5% of the 20.000 votes at the time of writing.

The wording of the tweet suggests that NiceHash may soon start accepting the winning cryptocurrency as a Christmas gift.

SHIB dominated NiceHash survey

Based on the survey, NiceHash followers are largely in favor of SHIB's support on the platform.

A Twitter user pointed out that Stacks (STX) was unlucky to be pitted against SHIB. "No coin stands a chance when facing ShibArmy," they said.

Of course, the more skeptical owners might suggest that this is just a marketing tool used to increase the engagement of Shiba Inu owners.

Previous social media campaigns involving SHIB listings have had mixed results when they haven't been followed up. Kraken got the backlash after promising a SHIB listing the next day, only to then delay the listing. He eventually listed SHIB in late November, however.

Healthcare firm AskTheDoctor also piqued ShibArmy's furore over using cryptocurrency after it sold its SHIB and threatened to sue Shiba Inu project leader Shytoshi Kusama.

So, if NiceHash intends to move forward, what would support for SHIB look like?

Could NiceHash support SHIB?

While most cryptocurrency users are familiar with NiceHash for its mining calculator and hash power market, SHIB support will likely come elsewhere.

NiceHash launched its own cryptocurrency exchange - NiceHash Exchange - in 2019. CoinGecko's exchange ranking puts NiceHash in 24th place.

NiceHash Exchange already supports over 60 cryptocurrencies, including Dogecoin, SAND and AAVE, but does not yet support SHIB. The most likely result from NiceHash's survey will be a listing of SHIB on its exchange, adding to the long list of exchanges - apart from Robinhood - that already support SHIB.

However, we cannot rule out mining support for SHIB. While SHIB is not a mineable cryptocurrency, as it is an ERC-20 token found on the Ethereum blockchain, mining service provider unMineable allows users to "mine" SHIB by mining ETH and automatically converting it to Shiba Inu.

NiceHash does not support these automatic transfers. Given the popularity of SHIB and other tokens, there is always the possibility that the company could move into this mining industry, with SHIB as the forerunner.

However, this remains speculative at best, especially given that Stacks, the cryptocurrency against SHIB in the survey, runs on its own blockchain.
