A quarter of small businesses in nine countries plan to offer cryptocurrency payments

Nearly a quarter of small businesses in nine countries around the world plan to accept digital currencies as a form of payment in 2022, while 13% of consumers in those countries expect retail stores to start offering cryptocurrency payments this year and as well, according to a survey by Visa Inc (VN).

Will companies soon accept BTC as a form of payment?

The survey of 2.250 small business owners across nine countries including the United States, Brazil, Singapore and Canada suggests that cryptocurrencies could begin to go mainstream as a means of payment.

Visa also surveyed 1.000 adults in the United States, along with 500 adults from each of the nine countries.

"I think more and more people are feeling safer with cryptocurrencies," Jeni Mundy, Visa's global head of sales and merchant acquisition, said in an interview.

Despite their growing popularity among retail and professional investors, cryptocurrencies are not widely used to pay for goods and services, in part due to their frequent fluctuations in value.

Bitcoin fell more than 5% on Monday, dropping below the $ 40.000 level for the first time since September. quotation in real time).

Small businesses outside of North America are more open to accepting digital currencies, including Bitcoin, as forms of payment.

A growing trend around the world

Visa found that more than 30% of small business merchants in the UAE, Hong Kong, Singapore and Brazil plan to offer customers the option to pay using crypto in the coming months. Digital currencies have taken off in each of these jurisdictions, despite differing regulations.

In contrast, 19% of small businesses in the US and just 8% in Canada plan to offer crypto as a payment option in 2022.

Nearly three-quarters of companies surveyed around the world reported that accepting new forms of payment is "critical" to their business growth. For many small businesses moving into new forms of digital payments, crypto adoption can be a natural evolution, Mundy said.

They are asking “what other forms of payment can we adopt? And what other forms should we consider? " he said.

The other countries in the survey include Germany, Ireland, and Russia. And what do you think of this survey? Do you think that soon the shopkeeper near your house will also display the sign that reads "We accept Bitcoin" or do you think it is still early? Let us know in the comments section below.
