Andrew Yang wants to adopt the Blockchain to make electoral processes safer

also the United States presidential elections they find themselves dealing with digital assets and everything that revolves around the world of cryptocurrency. As the case of Andrew Yang, Democratic candidate for the White House, who after having spoken in favor of the virtual uniforms has now re-launched, stating his intention to adopt the Blockchain to make electoral processes safer.
To better understand the scope of his statement it would be enough to remember what happened in 2000, when the results of Florida, which became decisive for the proclamation of the new President, were the subject of a real one legal battle that could have had incalculable consequences. Crisis avoided only by the sense of responsibility of Al Gore, a democratic candidate who could have won the presidency in the event of a recount of the ballot papers, after the proclamation of Bush's victory for only 537 votes.

What Andrew Yang said

But what exactly did Andrew Yang say? In practice, the Democratic candidate has declared that, should he win the presidential elections of the 2020, a hypothesis that at the moment is considered very unlikely by the observers, will implement a mobile electoral system based on Blockchain technology. This is mainly driven by the belief that in terms of security, most electoral machines are vulnerable to hacker attacks. We could therefore do so let voters vote on their smartphone precisely by adopting the security profiles made possible by cryptography and Blockchain.
The advantage of this resolution would not only be in terms of security, but also of inclusion of the population in democratic processes, as those who are not equipped with smartphones could still fall back on the traditional system, with a significant halving of the traditional rows at the seats.

An advocate of digital currencies

Andrew Yang had already distinguished himself in the first phase of the presidential elections for his statements in favor of cryptocurrencies, for example by asking for clearer guidelines for the sector, so as to facilitate not only investors, but also the companies that operate there. Non-face statements, however, if you think that in July, one of the committees supporting it has started accepting donations in Bitcoin through the Lightning Network.
No less resolute his support for Blockchain technology, for which Yang foresees a rosy future precisely on the basis of the enormous potential put on display over the past few years. A potential that could allow the institutions to finally shelter those electoral processes that have constituted a sore spot for star and stripes democracy over the past few years.

An idea that also advances in other parts of the world

The idea of using Blockchain technology must also be considered in light of the repeated political crises generated by the contestation of the election results, such as in Honduras, where the re-election of the outgoing president Juan Orlando Hernandez took place in a way that pushed the opposition to denounce sensational fraud. A crisis that resulted in serious street riots which finally prompted the police to intervene to bring the situation under control.
